Monk Fruit is a natural, clean tasting, high intensity sweetener with between 10 to 250x the sweetness of sucrose depending on concentation of the extract. On-site harvest, local production, optimal selection and classification based on fruit maturity level, ensures consistence in taste and flavor among different lots.

Siraitia grosvenorii Swingle fruit extract (SGFE) contains varying levels of mogrosides, which are the non-nutritive constituents of the fruit primarily responsible for the characteristic sweetness of SGFE. SGFE, depending on the mogroside content, is reported to be 100 to 250 times sweeter than sugar.

Siraitia grosvenorii Swingle, commonly known as Luo Han Guo or monk fruit, is a plant native to Southern China. More than 95% monk fruits have been concentrated in Guilin all over the world. Over centuries, monk fruit has been highly coveted in China as a pleasant, “cooling,” sweet tasting tea, and also commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine for relief of bronchial conditions related to cold/flu symptoms, and lung health.

US FDA has received GRAS Notices for SGFE. FDA has not questioned the notifiers’ GRAS determination for SGFE under the intended conditions of use identified in the GRAS notices submitted to FDA. FDA’s response letters on SGFE are available at the agency’s GRAS Notice Inventory website.
